Video for a Town That Sells Ideas

Boulder runs on things that are hard to explain in a sentence. University research spinning out into companies, biotech and climate tech, aerospace and instrumentation, and a downtown business core that expects video to look as sharp as whatever it is selling.

That makes Boulder work different from a standard corporate shoot. The pitch deck video, the lab tour, the founder interview, the recruiting piece aimed at engineers who can smell a stock-footage montage from across the room. These projects live or die on whether the person on camera sounds like a real human being who knows what they are talking about.

Autumn Leaves Video Productions is based in Denver, about 35 minutes down US-36, and we bring the same crew, cameras, and process to Boulder that we have used for organizations like Google and the Lowe’s Foundation. Filming across Colorado since 2015, fully insured, certificates available for CU buildings and private labs on request.

Documentary Style, Because Boulder Audiences Can Tell

A lot of Boulder companies are selling a mission as much as a product. Scripted reads are the wrong tool for that, and this audience in particular knows the difference.

The Real Problem Is Never the Camera

When a technical video does not work, it is almost never the footage. It is that the person who understands the science explained it the way they would explain it to a colleague, and the audience checked out in the first twenty seconds.

We build the question list with you before the shoot, then interview for the plain-language version. Same question asked three different ways until one answer lands. In the edit we keep the take a non-expert would actually follow, not the one that is most technically complete.

Let the B-Roll Carry the Weight

The lab, the hardware, the field site, the thing actually running. Watching a process happen does more explanatory work than another minute of a person describing it, and it is what makes a three minute video watchable instead of a talking head with a logo.

We shoot on Canon R5 Mark II cameras in 4K, which gives us enough resolution to reframe the same coverage into vertical social cutdowns later without a second shoot day.

Drone Work in Boulder: Read This First

Boulder is one of the most drone-restricted cities in Colorado. If someone promises you Flatirons aerials without mentioning any of this, that is worth knowing before you book them.

Where We Cannot Fly

City of Boulder rules prohibit launching, landing, or operating a drone on Open Space and Mountain Parks land. That covers the Flatirons, Chautauqua, and most of the trail system people picture when they ask for mountain aerials.

The city grants exceptions only for research, wildlife management, search and rescue, and public safety, and those applications need weeks of lead time. There is no commercial permit path for a promotional shoot.

Flying within three nautical miles of Folsom Field is also prohibited from one hour before to one hour after any CU home football game, and Boulder Municipal Airport puts controlled airspace over parts of north Boulder.

Where We Can

Private property with the owner’s permission, where FAA airspace allows it. Campuses, office parks, job sites, facilities, and plenty of Boulder addresses with the foothills sitting right there in the background anyway.

Our pilots hold FAA Remote Pilot certificates and our aircraft is registered for commercial use. We will show the paperwork on request, and you should ask any videographer for theirs, because an uncertified drone or an illegal launch can get your whole shoot shut down.

We check the specific site before the shoot date rather than the morning of. Weather and FAA restrictions can still ground us, so drone footage is never promised in advance.

Scoped to the Project, Not a Package

There is no fixed package price, because a single founder interview, a recruiting film, and a two day symposium do not need the same resources. Forcing your project into a box helps nobody.

Corporate, conference, and promotional work generally runs $800 to $4,000 per day for filming and post production work. Where you land inside that range depends on the factors listed here. Send us the details and we will scope it honestly, including anything we think you do not need.

Payment is 50% at booking and 50% after filming. Boulder is a short run from Denver, there are no travel fees.

What moves the number

  • Hours on site and number of days
  • Number of cameras and operators
  • Number of interviews or speakers
  • How many finished videos you need
  • Location scouting and site access
  • Drone and aerial coverage, where legal
  • Vertical social reels as an add on
  • Turnaround speed and delivery date

Boulder Video Production FAQ

No, and any videographer who says yes is either uninformed or planning to break the rules. City of Boulder regulations prohibit launching, landing, or operating a drone on Open Space and Mountain Parks land, which covers the Flatirons, Chautauqua, and most of the trail system people picture when they ask for mountain aerials. The city grants exceptions only for research, wildlife management, search and rescue, and public safety, with a long lead time. We can fly on private property with the owner’s permission where FAA airspace allows, so we plan the shot around where it is actually legal instead of promising a view we cannot deliver.

Flying within three nautical miles of Folsom Field is prohibited from one hour before to one hour after any CU home football game under the standard FAA stadium restriction. Boulder Municipal Airport also puts controlled and advisory airspace over parts of north Boulder, so some addresses need authorization before we fly. We check the site before the shoot date, not the morning of.

There are no set packages, because a single founder interview and a three day conference do not need the same resources. Corporate, conference, and promotional work generally runs $800 to $4,000 per day for filming and post production depending on hours on site, number of cameras and operators, number of interviews, whether drone is involved, and how fast you need delivery. Send us the details and we will scope it honestly.

The usual problem is not the camera, it is that the person who understands the science explains it the way they would to a colleague. We build the question list with you in advance, interview for the plain-language version, and cut to whichever take a non-expert would actually follow. B-roll of the lab, the hardware, or the field site carries the rest.

Boulder is about 35 minutes from our Denver base on US-36 and it is regular territory for us, along with Louisville, Superior, and Longmont. No travel fees.

Tell us the date the video needs to be delivered by and we will tell you if it is possible. Rush delivery works best when it is planned at booking rather than requested after the shoot, which matters if the video is tied to a funding round, a product launch, or a conference date. A 48 hour turnaround is possible in certain cases.

Autumn Leaves Video Productions is fully insured and a certificate of insurance naming your venue is available on request. University buildings and private labs often require one, so send us their requirements early and we will have the certificate over before the shoot date.

Payment is 50% at booking and 50% after filming. No media is released until full payment is received. We accept cash, check, PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard. Final delivery is digital through a shared Google Drive link once you have reviewed the edit and requested any revisions.
